I thought Restaurant Gal’s first year anniversary was coming up soon, but I wasn’t sure exactly when. Next week? This Thursday? Turns out, it was last Sunday. So, there we are.
And here I am: three restaurants, two job titles, 194 posted posts, two serious media inquiries, a lot of links, thousands of reads a day, much joy and angst, and more joy–all a year later.
When I began writing this blog on January 21, 2006, no one–and I mean no one–read the thing. I am pretty sure no one read it for a month or two. But slowly the word trickled out, and now I have a slew of regular readers I love hearing from and many more lurkers I have no idea about.
Restaurant Gal continues to be a noncommercial venture and very much a labor of love.
I’ll keep writing as long as I work in the business, because there seems to never be a dearth of stories to tell. And I’ll always look forward to the often insightful, hilarious, and sometimes aggravating comments that come with the territory.
A toast to the first year, then.
Coming soon? More.

Hi, I’m a relatively recent reader from New Zealand but intend to keep checking back as long as you keep writing stuff. ๐

“This calls for a toast!” (sound of cork popping gently, and glasses being poured).
“May your feet never tire, may your smile never fade.
May your customers never be rude, may your employees never call in sick.
May your boss recognize your genius.
But most importantly, may you never lose your passion for writing—we’d miss you too much.
Congrats on your anniversary, long live the Restaurant Gal!”
